The government side strengthened in 102 districts, in most of Budapest as well, there have never been so many Fidesz in the country
More people than ever voted for the Fidesz-KDNP, with 55 percent of voters in the countryside pro-government. And although this is not reflected in the number of seats, the government’s side also improved its sympathizers in the capital, and its sympathizers disappeared only in Buda.
3,057,195 people voted for the Fidesz-KDNP in the 2022 parliamentary elections. So many votes have not been on any party list since the regime change. It is true that almost a quarter of a million of them were cross-border ballots, and citizens who do not have the right to reside in Hungary have only been able to vote in the parliamentary elections since 2014. But the record of 2,809,238 votes collected domestically, in 2010, after eight years of left-wing rule (a two-thirds parliamentary majority) came to power, the Fidesz-KDNP received 2,706,292 votes, a 52.73 percent gain. The government side closed with 52.15 per cent of the votes cast domestically on 3 April, and 54.1 per cent with cross-border votes, which is the sure party support since 1990.
The figure below compares the results of the last four parliamentary elections: the number of referendums is growing steadily, and the results of the Fidesz-KDNP parliamentary list are better than the previous two, the best parliamentary elections.
In light of this, it is not surprising that it is Viktor Orban led party coalition was able to increase its support in most constituencies. On the other hand, it is a shocking fact that Fidesz-KDNP achieved better results in 102 of the 106 individual districts than in 2018.
Orange region
Of the 88 rural starters alone To János Lázár the former head of the Prime Minister’s Office, whose new government membership was already mentioned as an option by the Prime Minister, worsened the result by at least 0.01 percentage points (he had 781 fewer supporters per piece), but whereas the opposition Prime Minister-designate Péter Márki-Zay he was his opponent, still overtaken by 11.5 percentage points, which is hardly thrown in the eye of his party.
Apart from him, he is only victorious in the Szombathely district Csaba Hende (+0.03), recurring in Székesfehérvár Tamás Vargha (+0.26) and the constituency of Balatonfüred Counter Charles (+0.36 percentage points) is the one who could essentially only repeat his four previous results. The government side did not strengthen significantly in District 2 of Kecskemét: Tamás Gyula Szeberényi It outperformed by 0.26 percentage points Gábor Sombor his results four years ago, as well as in Szeged, where he is a former handball player To Csaba Bartók not even the Socialist managed to win With Sándor Szabó compared to 0.72 percentage points better than in 2018, respectively Béla Mihályffy a municipal representative could only add 0.67 percentage points B. László Nagy For the result of 2018 in the other district of Szeged, which has won a pro-government victory for four years and now. In addition, the 1st constituency in Győr is the one where the pro-government candidate (Simon Róbert Balázs).
As for the other end of the list, he is the most victorious in the Szigetvár district Csaba Nagy he had reached 48.93 per cent in the then battlefield four years ago, but this year there was no battle in the 4th constituency of Baranya: twice as many votes as in the DK Mrs. Lajos Szarkándi. The three Fidesz candidates in Northern Hungary four years ago also achieved more than ten percentage points better results:
- Member of Parliament since 1998 Richard Hörcsik Improved its result by 11.57 percentage points in Sátoraljaújhely (thus closed at 60.6 percent),
- Gábor Rizwho performed 10.83 percentage points better in and around Ózd than four years ago,
- and Winner of Vinnaiwho won 10.2 percentage points more votes in and around Nyíregyháza than in 2018.
It achieved nearly ten percent better results than four years earlier György Czerván In Nagykáta (former color secretary seems to be constantly able to renew, since he ran in the parliamentary elections in 1985 in the Patriotic People’s Fonts experimenting with multiple nominations), Zoltán Demeter In and around Kazincbarcika, as well as in the Szerencs-Tiszaújváros district Zsófia Konczwho was 9.7 percentage points more than his father, who died in the last accident, Koncz Ferenc 2018 results. We also tried to explain the reason for this success – or the failure of the opposition – in a report:
In 2018 yet György Simonka, Happy Stephen and Paul Völner he was also able to win individually, but since they have since been accused or suspected of corruption, the ruling party has not restarted them. The new candidates were able to improve on the results of the latest Fidesz in all three districts: the Orosháza Norbert Erdős 6.67 percentage points, Happy former district Zsolt Herczeg the mayor of Mezőtúr by 6.79 percentage points, and in Esztergom Gábor Erős 4.75 percentage points.
The Fidesz-KDNP has strengthened even in areas where we think it is no longer possible: Csornán Gyopáros Alpár after 63.9 in 2018, it has now reached 71.22 percent, but is not far behind it on the eastern border Tilki Attila nor did he produce a result almost 9 percentage points better than in 2018, and he won a seat with 68.71 percent of the votes in the Vásárosnamény area.
In rural areas, support for governing parties has increased to such an extent that in 24 of the 88 individual constituencies, their candidate received over 60 percent of the vote. There were only five such districts four years ago. Similarly eloquent data that
In our heat map, you can see how much the steering side has improved for its 2018 result. As can be seen, the Fidesz-KDNP has strengthened a lot, especially in North-Eastern Hungary. (You can browse all this in tabular form.)
In the countryside, with the exception of the above-mentioned Szeged district, the ruling party did not win only in the 1st constituency of Pécs, but János Kővári also outperformed the opposition by almost 5 percentage points With Tamás Mellár opposite, mint Péter Csizi four years ago. In 2018, and then in the 2020 by-elections, Fidesz was able to recapture the district of Dunaújváros, which brought Jobbik’s success, in such a way that the hospital director Lajos Mészáros It received 6.61 percentage points more votes than Galambos Dénes four years ago.
South Pest fruit
The picture is a bit more nuanced in Budapest, more precisely only in Buda. There are only three individual constituencies in the capital where the Fidesz-KDNP candidate achieved a weaker result than in 2018: Csaba Gór missed Mihály Varga Minister of Finance, Balázs Fürjes Head of the Prime Minister’s Office Gergely Gulyás, István Simicskó The leader of the KDNP faction, from his own result in 2018, was ranked II, XII and XI. district. The three districts of Buda, which traditionally voted for the right, have not been able to be conquered by the opposition for four years, but the municipal elections of 2019 have already predicted a turnaround, with the exception of the Hegyvidék. Although he did not get a seat on the government side, he did not have to grieve everywhere, even in Buda: in the Budafok district Zsolt Németh improved his performance four years ago and the former mayor of Óbuda, Sad Balázs it received almost 5 percentage points more votes than four years ago To Elizabeth Menczer.
The strengthening of Fidesz in the outer districts of Pest is particularly striking:
- although the government side improved by almost 4 percentage points in Újpest, László Varju his victory was not in danger,
- an XV. district is also in the SE To Balázs Barkóczi he had more excitement after the Fidesz Gábor Pintér Improved its predecessor by 4.85 percentage points, Tamás László as a result.
- Ágnes Kunhalmi four years ago, he gained a seat with an advantage of almost 7 percentage points in the 18th century. In the district, Jobbik also took 11 percent, but now, despite the entire opposition unit, the co-president of the MSZP won by just over 1 percentage point, after the Fidesz candidate was 3.56 percentage points better than four years ago.
- István Hiller in the area of the XIX-XX. district fides improved even more, by a good 5 percentage points Gyula Földesi,
- Csepelen (although Szabolcs Szabó defeated for the third time) Szilárd Németh The president of Fidesz achieved 4.6 percentage points better results than in 2018.
All this means that the opposition, with full cooperation, has just preserved such, mainly in South Pest (only as a red crescent constituencies mentioned above), with four years ago the separate start smoothly brought the candidate to the left. (The results in Budapest are tabulated next to the heat map below here they can be compared to 2018.)
That is, although the opposition to the coalition of several governments won five more individual constituencies in the capital than in 2018, there is cause for concern: party starters have improved their results by an average of 2 percentage points, so the six parties are far from rural. and the success of the Fidesz campaign, which is based on welfare measures and promises security. Revealing that he wants some support from civilian Buda, the Fidesz-KDNP has broken forward in panel areas such as the Havana housing estate, where the Fidesz István Zoltán Lévai he instructed Ágnes Kunhalmi behind him in several constituencies.
