Pro-Russian demo expected in Frankfurt
AThe demonstration was registered under the motto “Against hate speech and discrimination against Russian-speaking fellow citizens/Against war – For peace”. An originally registered motorcade with 700 vehicles may not take place according to the city’s decision. The start of the demonstration should take place on the Opernplatz.
In view of the war in Ukraine, the city has prohibited the wearing of certain symbols and insignia – such as images with the letters V and Z and the “St. George’s ribbon”. These stand for Russian wartime activities in Ukraine. It was forbidden to endorse Russian aggression in words and pictures and to denigrate the state of Ukraine, its people and the victims of the Russian invasion.
The police want to “closely follow” the demonstration and suspect violations of the conditions, announced the Frankfurt Presidium. Several groups have called for counter-demonstrations.
The FAZ is present at the demonstrations and reports in the Skyline live ticker.
