Mr Marvis is coming to Antwerp: shorts, trousers and minibar in the fitting room (Antwerp)
The Dutch menswear brand Mr Marvis only sells shorts and trousers. They apparently do this so well that they could now also open a large store in the Schuttershofstraat. Since the end of March you will find trousers in all colours, fabrics and sizes.
The idea for Mr Marvis arose in 2015. Amsterdammers David Sipkens and Steven Vrendenbarg lacked a place where they could go for quality men’s shorts. Through crowdfunding she managed to finance their first collection and together with co-founder and designer Aafke Tuin they complete a shorts that could stand the test of time. David: “We went looking for the ideal fit. It’s another matter of planning that men discover the perfect pants here and then expand their collection with colors and fabrics.”
After the shorts came the swimming and long pants. “We were tempted to create a full collection fashion, but we stayed true to our DNA. Our concept is clear: apart from the occasional small, limited edition of a sweater, shirt or hat, you will only find trousers here, but in 42 colors and suitable for all occasions.”Mr Marvis special in small family workshops in Portugal. “Everything is done under the right working conditions. We monitor that closely,” David continues. “We also pay attention to the right, ecological materials. Still typical of our trousers are the zipped storage pockets that are subtly incorporated into the trousers.”
Drink in the fitting room
The Antwerp branch is the second flagship of the brand. A year ago they also pop-up near the current address. It clearly ran so well that David and Steven decided to open their second store in the Schuttershofstraat. The next opening was held last Thursday. We spotted Sverre Denis (33), model and presenter at pay channel Eleven Sports. “The has everything a man wants. The service is friendly, the message is clear and everything revolves around the fit and the wearing comfort of the pants,” he says.
The minibar in the dressing room proves that everything has really been thought of. Each customer can enjoy a beer, soft drink and a bag of crisps during the passenger. In the meantime, the further internationalization of the brand has started. Mr Marvis’s web store mainly has customers in the Netherlands, the United Kingdom and is now also looking at the other side of the ocean. Recently, the former CEO and CFO of Tommy Hilfiger – Fred Gehring and Ludo Onnink – came on board. These new projects will help shape the international story.
