For subscribers absent for almost the entire winter, the snow made a spectacular appearance this Friday, April 8 in Luxembourg, more than two weeks after the start… of spring. An unexpected weather event at this time of year which accompanied storm Diego and very low temperatures for the season.
And yet, MétéoLux had announced it, as this tweet from meteorologist Lucas Mathias reminds us, Friday morning. “It is possible that the precipitation will take on a snowy character this Friday evening with a thin layer,” he wrote.
The forecast came true in the afternoon with snow showers over much of the country. Everyone went there from their Instagram video, surprised to see the heavy rains turn into flakes.
But this surprise spring guest also brought some difficulties. Thus, the women’s football match between Luxembourg and Latvia was canceled, the lawn of the Jos-Haupert stadium in Niederkorn being impassable.
And motorists have experienced some difficulties in returning home after their day’s work. Similar disruptions were seen on the other side of the border. On the A30, the snowplows were out and the traffic at a slow pace.
Snow showers were expected to continue throughout the evening according to MétéoLux before a “generally dry” night. Saturday morning and the beginning of the afternoon could be marked by “sleet”, before the return of drier weather and a rise in temperatures from Sunday. Next week the weather should be printed.
