Near Toulouse, to compensate for the absence of a teacher, parents plan to hire a student
The absence of a German teacher at the college of L’Union, near Toulouse, worries the association of parents of students. She is considering not only a complaint against the Rectorate but also to hire a student at her own expense to give lessons.
Is learning the German language doomed? The FCPE of the Georges-Chaumeton college fears it. She is angry. Since her departure, in December, the German teacher has not been previous. The parents’ association cannot accept this situation. And even less to accept, she says, “that these college students are thus deprived of German lessons for twelve weeks at the rate of 2.5 hours a week”. She therefore decided to let the Toulouse Rectorate know and even announces that she is thinking “of a complaint to the administrative court”. This solution is possible, according to the president of the FCPE, Fabrice Ruffier who recalls that “for the same reasons, the administrative court of Versailles by eleven judgments dated November 3, 2003, condemned the State to pay compensation to the parents of ‘students from a secondary school in Evry’.
The FCPE of L’Union fears that the “durability of the German language is compromised”. She also evokes a discrepancy between the official discourse and reality: “We are made to believe that there is an interest in languages, but some, as well as other subjects, are neglected”.
A candidate received by the Rectorate
To compensate for the absence of this teacher, the parents of students have also opted for an option that has been ruled out so far: to hire themselves, on their own money, a person who will benefit from the lessons. “This solution is indeed under discussion due to a lack of response to our request. It will probably be a student who will give lessons once a week in a room that has yet to be determined. We are asking the town hall for a helping hand”. The City could indeed follow up. Mayor Marc Péré, “sees no problem with it. If an association asks us for a room, we always make sure to provide it…”
Also questioned by La Dépêche on the prolonged absence of the German teacher, the Rectorate indicated that “the academic services are mobilized to resolve this situation at the Chaumeton college. Several proposals were made to contractors but unfortunately did not come to fruition. As part of the job dating, a candidate for a position in German was received, the file is being studied by the inspection”.
