At least 45 unaccompanied Ukrainian minors have already arrived in Portugal – Observer
At least 45 Ukrainian minors unaccompanied by their family have arrived in Portugal since the beginning of Ukraine, having as situations reported to the Commissions for the Protection of Children and Young People (CPCJ), the institution revealed this Thursday to Lusa.
In a reply sent to Lusa, the vice-president of the National Commission for the Promotion of Rights and Protection of Children and Youth (CNPDPCJ]Maria João Fernandes, states that, since the beginning of the armed conflict in Ukraine and until this Thursday, 45 situations of unaccompanied children were reported to the CPCJ who arrived in the country.
“After the adoption of the communication, as a CPCJ, it is an urgent procedure and similarity that happens with all the procedures adopted for the Public Prosecutor’s Office (MP) after the measures adopted as measures adopted for their immediate protection”, advances the CNPDPCJ.
The National Commission for the Promotion of Rights and Protection of Children and Young People states that the Public Ministry, after receiving the communication, urgently requests the competent court for an urgent judicial process.
The CNPDPCJ also indicates that it has monitored and guided as a CPCJ regarding these cases of children arriving in Portugal unaccompanied.
CPCs are contacted and normally by the Foreign Service (SEF) when the minor is registered for the protection of the minor being registered.

In this situation, the communication is made to the Public Ministry of the geographical area of residence declared to the SEF “for the appointment of a legal representative and possible promotion of a process for the protection of the minor”.
On Wednesday, a source close to the process told Lusa that the SEF communicated the situation to the Public Ministry. about 350 cases of Ukrainian minors who arrived in Portugal without parents or legal representatives.
The last update made by the SEF indicates that Portugal granted 780 protection requests28 closed Ukrainian citizens and foreign nationals residing in Ukraine since the beginning of the war, of which 10,162 are minors.
The application for protection of a Portugal can be made through a platform online created by the SEF (SEFforUkraine.sef.pt) available in three languages, it is not necessary for adults to run at the counters of this security service.
