Asvel ends in defeat against Milan in the Euroleague
Asvel lost to Olimpia Milan (81-80), this Thursday evening in its Astroballe room during the 34th and last day of Euroleague. The French club did not manage to finish their European campaign on a high note, despite the 28 points of their American David Lighty, or the 18 of their prodigy Victor Wembanyama.
The Villeurbannais, who led at half-time (41-40), finished with a record of eight wins and twenty losses, to which we can add two successes against CSKA Moscow and Unics Kazan, two of the three Russian clubs excluded after the beginning of the war in Ukraine, i.e. a lower balance sheet than the 2020-2021 financial year.
Asvel focused on the Championship
Throughout their European campaign, Villeurbanne was heavily penalized by absences due either to Covid-19 or injuries and was thus never able to field their full squad. From now on, Asvel is concentrating on the end of the French championship with the ambition of retaining its title after losing that of the Coupe de France against Gravelines.
Even before Thursday evening’s meeting, Milan was guaranteed to qualify for the play-offs and can still finish third depending on Real Madrid’s result on Friday against Bayern Munich (8:45 p.m.).
