In Lyon, there are three of them to count among the very closed club of French billionaires. Their names are Alain Mérieux, Christian Latouche and Norber Dentressangle. Alone, they accumulate a fortune of 10.4 billion dollars, or 9.52 billion euros.
All three are therefore part of the top 50 of the greatest French fortunes in 2022, revealed by Forbes.
Their position in the ranking
Alain Mérieux is the richest of the three. He ranks 16th in the top 50, with an estimated fortune in 2022 of $6.7 billion.
He and his family, owners of the pharmaceutical empire bioMérieux, have a turnover of 3.3 billion thanks to a record year linked to the health crisis. His fortune still fell by a million dollars compared to last year’s ranking.
Christian Latouche ranks 33rd with a fortune of $2.2 billion. Owner of Fiducial, his company has 270,000 customers and weighs 1.7 billion euros. He is also the owner of Lyon Capitale and Sud Radio. It signs an increase of 2 million dollars in 2022.
Finally, Norbert Dentressangle ranks 37th with a fortune estimated at 1.7 billion dollars, up 2 million compared to last year. The Dentressangle group, acquired by XPO Logistics, has nearly two billion in equity through its holding company.
At the top of the podium, a man who could buy Lyon
At the top of the podium is Bernard Arnault, whose fortune is estimated today at 158 billion dollars. It takes him 40 seconds to earn the annual salary of a smicard.
According to a study published in 2017 by the French Observatory of Inequalitieshis wealth is equivalent to the value of all housing in the city of Lyon and it would take a smicard almost 11 million years to earn as much as himall without spending anything.
