An award-winning town in Pas-de-Calais. The town hall of Arques was honored at the National Assembly this Wednesday. She was awarded the second prize for “eco action trophies” by the association of Eco mayors.
Arques was rewarded for the establishment of the Atlas of municipal biodiversity (ABC) on its territory. The latter is an inventory of the environments and species present which makes it possible to map the challenges of biodiversity at the scale of the territory.
The town hall of the commune specifies that “the atlas makes it possible to map biodiversity so that the projects under mandate gain in coherence in order to respect biodiversity”.
“We want to take advantage of this tool to create emulation in order to involve all the inhabitants in the preservation of biodiversity. Everyone can do something in front of their door”, continues the municipality.
ABCs, the “baby” of Eco Mayors
For his part, the former deputy and president of the Eco Mayors Guy Geoffroy explains that the ABCs are the “baby” carried by the association.
“When it came to implementing the Grenelle Environment Forum, we wanted to show that we could contribute to biodiversity at the local level. And the first thing to do is to get to know each other, to know our heritage. and our diversity”, continues the former MP.
For 31 years, the association of Eco Mayors has been awarding prizes for the initiatives of local authorities in the field of the environment.
