The centipede of mothers entered the Czech Book of Records in Prague
They started the Sportisimo 1/2 Marathon Prague as the oldest participant in the race. Ten mothers, who are 408 years old, completed the entire eleven-kilometer track as one centipede. They ran not only for fun, but above all for a good cause. Through sports, it has long helped children with birth defects or serious illnesses. However, due to the situation in Ukraine, this time the “Half Marathon Centipede” has changed its mission at the last minute and is donating the proceeds as a show of solidarity to the people affected by the war.
Dozen friends who share a passion for sports and who are not indifferent to the fate of others have invested a lot of time, energy and resources into their plan. They wanted to take part in the half marathon two years ago, but their plans were thwarted by the covid-19 pandemic. “We are now twenty years older than then, but the common dream has not changed – to run a half marathon as a team in one centipede costume and help those who need it,” agree Magda Nováková and Monika Phillips, amateur endurance runners who project the Half Marathon Centipede. established. With their enthusiasm, they tore down eight other mothers, who have to train their work duties and caring for their families regularly with them, sewed centipede costumes out of foam, and whoever I whip up will support running.
In addition to the joy of moving and sharing a good mood and helping, they set a time for running the race to 2 hours and 30 minutes. They even succeeded in 9 minutes, which ensured them entry in the Czech Book of Records for “The fastest half marathon in group costume”. The routes of the fans, who enthusiastically encouraged them throughout the race, also helped them reach this goal. “The support of the spectators and volunteers from RunCzech was incredible, the fantastic atmosphere of the race surprised us and we thank everyone for their efforts,” smiles Magda Nováková and Monika Phillips adds: they set them up in a costume, that we may not be left alone. “
This also indicates the plans of the Half Marathon Centipede for the future. The original intention to donate the financial amount from this year’s Prague Half Marathon to 11-year-old Adelka, who has undergone demanding cancer treatment and her great wish is to look out to sea, has changed some running mothers at the instigation of the little girl herself. “Adelka wanted us to help the people she intended in Ukraine now, they say they need her more than she does,” the project initiators explain emotionally, adding: We will also set up an account on Donia under the title “Holiday for Adelka” and I very much hope that with the help of the public we will be able to get the necessary one soon. “
