The Republic of Moldova fully respects the international sanctions imposed on Russia, President Maia Sandu said on Monday. She added that the only vulnerable aspect in the relationship with Moscow in the field of natural gas area. Ina Guțu from Radio Chisinau has details.
Reporter: Moldovan banks comply with all international payment restrictions. Exports to the east have diminished due to the war in Ukraine, and the authorities are trying to prevent re-exports on the territory of the Republic of Moldova. Maia Sandu: Our banks comply with all policies and restrictions imposed by international payment systems. The situation on the gas market is difficult, we cannot give up the demand for gas from the Russian Federation and we are not the only country that does not give up.
The Republic of Moldova remains a vulnerable state, including in terms of security, and at this time we cannot say with certainty whether the neutrality of the Republic of Moldova will be respected in the future, says Maia Sandu.
At the same time, the President of the Republic of Moldova said that he opts for the continuation of the peaceful settlement of the Transnistrian conflict, there are doubts to this extent. Maia Sandu called on the so-called Tiraspol authorities not to take any action that would increase the risk of armed attacks on the territory of the Republic of Moldova.
