During the Open House Prague festival, people will be able to visit 101 buildings
Feast of urban architecture, festival Prague Open Day, is produced this year from 16 to 22 May 2022. The eighth year of the festival, made available to the public this weekend free of charge, 101 buildings and spaces throughout the capital. An accompanying program will be prepared in the festival week from May 16 – lectures, discussions and special guided walks. You can find a complete list of open buildings now at openhousepraha.cz. Accompanying programs will be published gradually in Calendar of events. I am going to print a festival guide this year as well. It will be for sale at the beginning of May in the e-shop or from 16 May in the festival information center.
“We open the door not only for modern buildings with various types of quality awards and environmentally friendly technologies, industrial, but also unique in the world, iconic buildings that represent the historical and cultural wealth of Prague. We uncover unknown and hidden cultural realizations of excellent architects, artists and craftsmen, as well as forgotten stories of builders, owners or their descendants“Says festival director Andrea Šenkyříková.
This year’s program is dedicated to commemorating the birth of several important architects working in the Czech Republic. Slovenian architect and urban planner Jože Plečnik celebrated his 150th birthday in January this year, and on this occasion it will be possible to see the main nave, underground crypt and lower part of the tower of the Church of the Sacred Heart in Vinohrady, one of the most remarkable sacral buildings in the Czech Republic. Illustrations of the church by Jan Šrámek adorn this year’s festival visual style.
