When Siena Jazz marries the Chigiana – Chronicle
Pianist Yonathan Avishai arrives at Siena Jazz. From today until Tuesday the Israeli musician (but resident in France) will be the protagonist of the second appointment with the international masterclasses organized by the Sienese academy. A moment much awaited by students, which develops in the form of musical residences and performance activities, bringing together an educational event and the opportunity to perform with the same teachers in a single path.
Students will develop a series of pieces by the teacher together with original pieces composed for the occasion. And as a corollary to these meetings, Avishai will perform with the students of Siena Jazz on the stage of the auditorium of the University for Foreigners (via dei Pispini, 1) on Tuesday at 9.30 pm (admission by reservation only for students, teachers and staff of the Sienese universities ). The masterclass program will then continue in May from Sunday 8 to Tuesday 10 with the double bass player Demian Cabaud; from Sunday 29 to Tuesday 31 with singer David Linx; from Sunday 12 to Tuesday 14 June with trumpeter Ralph Alessi. Siena Jazz will also be the protagonist of next Friday’s concert, included in the Micat in Vertice review of the Accademia Chigiana. In fact, it was born from the collaboration of the two Sienese institutes ‘Tabula rasa’, which will be staged at the Teatro dei Rozzi at 9 pm.
A truly incredible ensemble, under the direction of Stefano Battaglia, which over two different but not distant worlds, indeed so as to find suggestive common spaces and intersections. In fact, since 2019, the two institutions have crossed paths to create a stable performative ensemble, combining their talents, breaking down the boundaries between genres, styles, in a contemporary perspective of the best innovations and links with the musical tradition. .
Speaking of Chigiana, in recent days the Sienese academy has obtained the first place among the musical institutions of Tuscany in the sixth edition of the Art Bonus Project, the initiative conceived by Ales on behalf of the Ministry of Culture, which rewards the cultural project most voted. La Chigiana participated in the competition with its own Chigiana International Festival 2021, entitled ‘Diverso’ and focused on the multiple aspects of cultural diversity through a series of sixty concerts, receiving 822 overall votes and placing fifty-first out of the 265 that participated nationwide .
