In the intoxicating glow of the moon New Town Hall in Prague
On October 16, 1912, a major work of the 20th century premiered in Berlin: the cycle Pierrot Lunaire (Sleepwalker) by the Austrian composer Arnold Schönberg. We will present it on the day exactly 100 years later and we will complete the concert with a cycle by Alexander Zemlinský, a friend and great promoter of Schönberg’s music. For this concert, we also ordered a new composition for an identical instrumental cast as Pierrot Lunaire, but with a male voice, from the young Czech composer and award-winning baritone Vojtěch Šembery, who sings himself in the premiere. The solo part in the compositions of A. Schönberg and A. Zemlinský is presented by the renowned performer of 20th century music, soprano Irena Troupová, performed by leading Czech instrumentalists under the direction of conductor Petr Louženský.
The compositions will be performed in the German original and supplemented by Czech subtitles.
