– The homes we have lived in have had very different styles
Jeanett Knipschildt and her husband have lived abroad for many years and it has not been anywhere. It has been in two of the world’s metropolises. First in London and then in New York, something that has also marked the couple’s interior style.
– In trendy Williamsburg in Brooklyn, I was inspired by the local design culture, supporting local artists and carpenters. And in Shoreditch, London, we were surrounded by up-and-coming artists, and since we both worked in the advertising industry for many years, we love storytelling and beautiful style.
– I let the decor be controlled by the mood
But the art hunt was not only reserved for small galleries or studios, they often went straight to it on the street.
– I love the new ideas, techniques and perspectives in the art world, but also in the street environment. In London, it was often freshly painted graffiti and whimsical illustrations and removable art on the street corners that I loved and was inspired by in my job as a graphic designer, says Jeanett.
Over the past 26 years, the couple has lived in as many as 15 different homes in Denmark, England and the USA, respectively. And for every new home, there was a new style.
– The homes we have lived in have had very different styles, and this has been reflected in the decor. In London, for example, we lived in an apartment in an industrial building with a style mix of the industrial and the minimalist.
Today, the couple lives in the oldest residential area in Copenhagen, and the style is far from industrial and minimalist.
– The house from 1870 is the cleanest Villa Villekulla, and has been built on several occasions. We have preserved the original worn fishbone parquet, which reminds us a bit of worn jeans, since they go for everything, says Jeanett and smiles.
When Gro Anita took over the keys to the apartment, she got a little shock
In the house in Østerbro, not much is left to chance.
– All areas are planned for them to provide different experiences and create the right framework for us and the history of the house. We want to be true to the building style. In the interior, there are no colors that recur, but you meet in different colors all the way – both on furniture, walls and in art, she says.
However, this does not mean that everything must be 100 percent well thought out before a new piece of furniture ends up inside the doors of the couple.
– I’m very impulsive. Suddenly I can fall in love with a piece of furniture I have put in, and have to figure out where it can fit. It must have a personality, and it should preferably be sustainable, Jeanett concludes.
