Things are just not progressing well for the second division soccer team Hannover 96. On Saturday, the relegation-threatened club could not get past a 1-1 (1-1) draw against SSV Jahn Regensburg at home, despite being outnumbered for more than an hour.
So it’s already clear: the demand of managing director Martin Kind that the first two parties have to be won after the international break will not be fulfilled by coach Christoph Dabrowski’s team. Hannover 96 could only get four points even with a win on the coming match day at the penultimate Erzgebirge Aue. Lower Saxony also has a four-point lead in 16th place, the relegation rank.
“We want to get the three points in Aue. Today we left two behind,” said 96 captain Marcel Franke to NDR.
96 unit backlogged by standard
Attacker Lukas Hinterseer is not in the squad for the Reds. Eight days earlier, the Austrian had caused Dabrowski to end the training session prematurely with a frustration foul on young professional Tim Walbrecht. Hendrik Weydandt has occupied the top position.

For a long time, there was little to see of him or his offensive colleagues. It was a dreary affair in front of only 9,200 spectators – until the Upper Palatinate suddenly started. Charalambos Makridis flicked the ball from the left corner of the penalty area in the direction of the top right angle – right to the bottom edge of the crossbar, from where it bounced onto the goal line and then back into the field (22′). And before the Lower Saxony could sort themselves properly, it was already 0: 1 (23rd). After a corner, Andreas Albers held his own against Sebastian Kerk and Sei Muroya and nodded off to lead the guests.
Red for Regensburg, Hanover’s pride equalizes
They weakened themselves a little later. Carlo Boukhalfa rightly saw the red card for his kick against Dominik Kaiser’s knee (26th). 96 took advantage of the majority in the first half: ex-Regensburg Sebastian Stolze headed a free kick from Kaiser into the net – 1:1 (39th). With the result, it goes into the break.
96 pro Kaiser with a good chance to take the lead
After restarting, it takes a long time for the party to get going again. Albers failed in the 69th minute a 96-goalkeeper Ron-Robert Zieler, the bald head then missed the target with a shot by Cedric Teuchert (76th). Overall, however, it was far too little what the North Germans managed to do against the decimated guests.
But then suddenly it was there, the big chance for the “Reds”: Muroya’s shot was parried by guest keeper Alexander Meyer (88th), who had just collided with Moussa Doumbouya. Regensburg finally brought the draw over time. For the Hanoverians, who had previously suffered consecutive defeats in the league, it was only a small step forward.
