Hanover (dpa/lni) – Prime Minister Stephan Weil (SPD) and the State Commissioner for Migration and Participation, Doris Schröder-Köpf, (SPD) wished all Muslims in Lower Saxony a blessed and peaceful fasting month. “Like other religious festivals and traditions, Ramadan has had a permanent place in Lower Saxony for many years,” Weil said on Friday. The Prime Minister said that the current crisis gains the cohesion in the family, in the circle of friends and in society as well as peaceful coexistence even more important.
Schröder-Köpf emphasized that inner contemplation and cohesion played an important role in these turbulent times. This is exactly what Ramadan stands for. The month of fasting has a solidarity and social character. Fasting begins in the ninth month of Ramadan on April 3rd and ends on May 1st. Then the three-day festival “Eid al-Fitr”, also called Ramadan or Sugar Festival, which marks the ceremonial conclusion of the fast, began.
