Machete attack at a school in Michle: VIDEO from the perpetrator’s arrest
The attacker fled the scene after the teacher attacked the crime scene with a machete in his office on the fourth floor of the school. According to Lightning, he jumped out of the gym locker room window. Immediately after him, a hundred police and criminalists and a helicopter began to search for him, and they managed to arrest him about an hour after the attack in Dolní Břežany.. Police have now released a video of the arrest.
It shows a young man in a leather jacket sitting in a car, but not behind the wheel, but strapped to his passenger seat. The police approach the car and open the door. “Hello, put your hands in front of you. Don’t move. What is your name?” they ask the suspect.
He puts his hands in front of him and answers. “Do you have one with you?” The police wanted to know, and the man said, that he has a knife, and begins to reach into his jacket pocket. The police warn him again to keep their hands in front of them. “Put your hands behind your head, put your right foot out and get out. No quick movements, hands behind your head, “they challenge. The student then disembarks according to their instructions and then navigates the police, where his knife is stored. “Left jacket pocket,” is on the record. The police then handcuff him.
The young man was then transferred to the entire preliminary detention by criminal investigators in the balaclava, and criminal proceedings were initiated.
“They behaved as they should”
The first deputy of the new police president, Martin Vondrášek, Tomáš Lerch, who headed the Prague police officers until Thursday, said on Friday that the announcement of the perpetrator’s actions triggered a controlled, rehearsed mechanism across all components of the Integrated Rescue System. “The first patrol arrived at the scene in a very short time, followed by other colleagues. They did the way we practiced in the past. It was also clear from the school that the students were going through prevention projects. “They behaved as they should at that moment and cooperated with the police without any problems,” he described.
Police President Vondrášek reminded that after the terrorist attack in Brussels in March 2016, the Czech police set up a Support working group, which addresses the protection of 600 soft targets, including schools. The police also underwent special training. Vondrášek thanked the Prague police for the fact that the attacker was able to detain them within an hour, and the training staff for their behavior, thanks to which the act had no further consequences.
