“I know that there is a friendly contact between Rutte and Zelensky,” says Kononenko. “As my president your Prime Minister Mark personally, this has them have a bond.”
Furthermore, the Netherlands said it would cut current trade relations with Russia, supply more weapons and be ready to “stop the energy from Russia”. The president thanked the Dutch “politicians and the common people” for supporting his country.
‘It moved me’
Kononenko was very impressed by his president’s speech. “It was a special moment,” he says. “It moved me.” According to him, Zelensky’s main message is that “we must above all act together and continue to form a unity”.
