AS Monaco is very close to a feat. By beating Olimpia Milan (72-63) in Italy on Thursday March 31, the Roca Team got closer to the Euroleague playoffs. Such a performance has not been achieved by a French club since Asvel in 2000.
Yet largely behind at the break, the Monegasques recovered thanks to Mike James and failed a scathing 20-1 to the Lombards at the end of the third quarter. This victory, the 13th of the last 16 meetings, consolidates seventh place for Monaco.
A defeat of Alba Berlin in Istanbul on Friday would even send the Roca Team directly to the playoffs. Otherwise, the Monegasques are still masters of their destiny and can seal their qualification against these same Berliners, 9th, next Friday.
For its part, Asvel remains in the depths of the classification. Already out of the race for qualifying for the playoffs, the Rhodaniens lost (94-73) on the floor of Maccabi Tel Aviv.
With this 19th setback, for only 8 victories, Asvel remains in 13th and penultimate place. The Euroleague has only 15 teams left after the exclusion of the three Russian clubs (CSKA Moscow, Zenit Saint-Petersburg and Kazan) in response to the invasion of Ukraine by the Russian army.
