Monaco is getting closer to the play-offs, Asvel falls again
Monaco managed to overthrow Olimpia Milan in their room at the Mediolanum Forum, to win (72-63) and take an almost decisive step towards the Euroleague play-offs thanks to their 14th victory of the regular season. Asvel lost to Maccabi Tel Aviv (94-73).
Monaco will receive Alba Berlin in eight days, in its Gaston-Médecin room. But in the event of a setback for the Berliners on Friday evening on the Efes Istanbul floor, the Monegasque Roca Team will be assured of a place in the top eight of the regular season, synonymous with qualification for the quarterfinals and presence in the Euroleague the next season. Monaco, which has won six of its last seven Euroleague matches, can thus become the first club in the French championship to reach the quarter-finals of the C1 since Villeurbanne in 2000.
Asvel can’t do it
Villeurbanne, already out of the running for qualification for the play-offs, lost 94 to 73 on the floor of Maccabi Tel Aviv, for their penultimate match of the Euroleague season. With this 19th setback, for only 8 victories, Asvel remains in 13th and penultimate place in the standings, which only has 15 teams after the exclusion of the three Russian clubs (CSKA Moscow, Zénith Saint-Petersburg and Kazan) in response to the invasion of Ukraine by the Russian army.
For its part, Maccabi Tel Aviv, thanks to its 15th success retained this season, validates its ticket for the quarter-finals of the queen competition of European basketball. This is the fifth ticket for the play-offs after FC Barcelona (assured of first place), Real Madrid, Olimpia Milan and Olympiakos. TJ Parker’s players will face Olimpia Milan, guaranteed to finish in the top four, in their Astroballe hall, in a week, for the last match of their third Euroleague season.
