As fado in Portugal or the Blues in America, flamenco carries a popular culture, often cheerful, sometimes painful, always moving. The 21and edition of the Festival Flamenco Toulouse, which will be held from Saturday April 2 to 9, 2022, will honor artists from all over the world, international stars or emerging dancers and singers, and it is a repainted Pink City in the flamboyant colors of flamenco who will kiss for ten days.
For aficionados and neophytes
At the Halle aux grains as well as at the Henri-Desbals, Soupetard or Saint-Cyprien cultural centres; at the Cervantes Institute of course, but also at the Abattoirs or at the ABC cinema, the festival is open to aficionados as well as neophytes and the curious, who could attend master classes and admire photographic works by the Toulousain Fabien Ferrier and the naive and colorful drawings of Gaspar “La Pinturilla”.
“Toulouse has everything to love flamenco! »
“It has become a major Toulouse cultural event, and it is for everyone. Toulouse, by its proximity, the history it shares with Spain and by its dynamic Spanish community, has everything to love flamenco! “.
Created by and for the people, flamenco embraces all moods and “it is as representative of Spanish culture as paella or tortilla ! “.
International artists
From Madrid to Barcelona via Pamplona, flamenco irrigates Hispanic culture – Picasso and Dalí adored him – and the artists that Toulouse are about to welcome are all very famous in their country and around the world. “We wanted to focus on the younger generation, confides Maria Luisa Sotoca, even if these artists have already performed in the biggest festivals, like Jesus Guerrerowho plays with his trio and who is referred to as “the new Miguel Poveda”.
Another artist that we will follow with attention: Sandra Carrasco. “She is what I call a chameleon artist: she sings jazz themes superbly and she is already in demand by the greatest flamenco guitarists and dancers,” continues the festival organizer.
Marco Floresaward-winning dancer and choreographer, and Jose Almarcha, a leading guitarist, creates an admirable musical, visual and sung dialogue; “Trece Martirios”, with Olga Llorente and “El Cante es Oro” with Montes Cortes are unmissable, like the show “Orígen” by the gypsy guitarist Samuel Serrano.
A festival of surprises and discoveries
A festival of surprises and discoveries, a fireworks display of colors and sounds, to celebrate the freedom of the body while remembering with the great American choreographer that “dance is the hidden language of the soul”. »
Jean-Claude Simon
Prices, depending on the shows, from 8 to 25 euros; projections from 6 to 8 euros, levels from 60 to 100 euros.
