1722 activated due to bad weather: snow expected in Belgium this Friday
The IRM indeed issued a bad weather warning, snowfall and slippery conditions on the roads are to be expected. The FPS Interior therefore temporarily activates number 1722.
The number is provided in case of damage caused by bad weather for which the population needs the assistance of the fire brigade. If citizens wish to do so, they can submit a request via the e-desk www.1722.be or call 1722. The authorities point out that it is only necessary to reach 112 in situations where a life is in danger. .
The Royal Meteorological Institute has issued a yellow alert for slippery conditions across all of Belgium except the coast. Nocturnal snowfalls will lead, Friday around 6:00 am, to a layer of snow of 3 to 5 centimeters in the Hautes-Fagnes and 2 to 3 centimeters everywhere else.

Tonight, the sky will be overcast everywhere with the arrival of an area of active precipitation from the Netherlands. Rain or melting snow will gradually turn to snow and a layer of several cm may form over the hours, mainly over the northern half of the country (up to 3 or 5 cm or locally more). In the far west, with temperatures that will remain slightly positive, melting snow is expected. In the south-east, the weather remains drier. The minima will be between 0 degrees in a large number of regions and +2 degrees on the coast and in the extreme south-east. The wind will be moderate, strong to very strong on the coast, from the north sector. Gusts can reach 80 to 90 km/h along the coast.
Friday morning, the snowfall will progress towards the French border and the south-east while the weather will become drier in the north of the country. The most active precipitation will concern a large central and western part and will gradually turn into melting snow in lower and middle Belgium at the end of the morning.
