There are 77,000 customers without water in the southwest of Prague. Schools and offices have closed
Due to the failure of the water supply lines in Líšnická Street in Prague 13, there are approximately 77,000 customers without water supplies in Jinonice, Stodůlky, Ořech, Řeporyje, Zadní Kopanina and parts of Prague 13. Prague Water Supply and Sewerage informed about it. Pipe replacement will begin in the evening. The cause of the accident was fatigue of the material. The water lines are to be refilled on Thursday at noon.
“An accident on the DN 800 and DN 600 water mains occurred at the Kopanina reservoir in Líšnická Street on Tuesday evening,” said Tomáš Mrázek, a spokesman for the Prague Water Supply and Sewerage Line. The cause of the accident of the 800 and 600 millimeter diameters was probably material fatigue. The first dates from 1982, the second from 1989.
The company also deals with alternative drinking water supplies. “We have deployed all available capacity,” the spokesman said. Due to the scale of the accident, they had to borrow three tanks from Kladno’s waterworks and others should arrive from Teplice. They will have another six tanks available from the fire brigade. “Tanks from firefighters will only deliver utility water, which will be used to flush toilets and the like,” said Mrázek.
The restoration of the pipeline should begin on Wednesday evening, until then they will continue to work to uncover it. The company originally wanted to complete the repairs by Thursday morning, but due to the scope of work, it now calculates that it will start filling the water mains around Thursday noon.
The city district of Prague 13 has announced that it is restricting traffic due to the accident of some schools. Those who found themselves without water were declared director’s leave. “We will try to keep kindergartens in operation at risk,” the town hall said. Residents are advised to follow the information from individual schools and schools on their websites. Replacement supply will be provided according to available capacities.
