The Czechia granted Ukrainians 3,600 visas on Tuesday. Most refugees remain in Prague – ČT24 – Czech Television
The actual number of Ukrainian refugees residing in the Czech Republic is probably higher. Eight days ago, Prime Minister Petr Fiala (ODS) stated that there were about 300,000 of them. Most are children, four-fifths of adults are women.
On Tuesday, 2,700 refugees registered at the assistance centers and at the Aliens Police. 134.5 thousand refugees have reported themselves since the beginning of the war, which has lasted over a month. Children under the age of 15 do not need to register.
The number of visas issued for temporary protection has been declining over the past week. From Monday’s seven thousand to about three thousand on weekends. On Monday, the number rose slightly again to 5,100. Ukrainians can stay in the Czech Republic for up to a year on the basis of a temporary protection visa. At the same time, they have access to public health insurance, education, the labor market and the right to additional assistance, such as accommodation.
According to the ministry, there are almost 60,000 people fleeing the war in Prague. The capital thus remains the region with the largest number of refugees. The assistance center for Ukrainians at the Prague Congress Center on Tuesday handled less than a thousand people for the second time since its inception. There were 982 of them. Since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, they have helped 60,854 people in the center, which is common to Prague and the Central Bohemian Region.
