Tens of thousands of Praguers are without water due to the accident. Some schools did not open – ČT24 – Czech Television
“At the Kopanina reservoir in Líšnická Street, there was an accident on the DN 800 and DN 600 water mains in the early evening,” PVK said on Tuesday. According to the mayor of Prague Zdeněk Hřiba, the accident is serious. “One spinal tube ruptured first. The water from it then subdued the slope it passed and the second one also broke, “he wrote on Twitter.
The cause of the accident of the 800 and 600 millimeter diameters was probably material fatigue. The first dates from 1982 and the second from 1989.
The company is dealing with alternative drinking water supplies. “We have deployed all available capacity,” stressed PVK spokesman Tomáš Mrázek. According to the mayor, the water in the line was contaminated, the repair will take place overnight. The beginning of the filling of the water supply line was originally started on Thursday morning, but PKV will not start with it until noon. “Unfortunately, we were forced to postpone the start date of filling the water supply line due to the scope of work,” said Mrázek.
Due to the extent of the accident, PVK had to borrow three tanks from Kladno’s waterworks and others should arrive from Teplice. They will have another six tanks available from the fire brigade. “Fire tanks will only deliver utility water, which will be used to flush toilets and the like,” the spokesman added.
Some schools have declared director’s leave
The city district of Prague 13 announced on its website that it was restricting traffic due to the accident of some schools. Those who found themselves without water were declared director’s leave. “We will try to keep kindergartens in operation in the optimal mode,” said representatives of Prague 13. Residents can follow the information from individual schools and schools on their websites. Replacement supply will be provided according to available capacities.
The office in Prague-Řeporyje will also remain closed due to the accident, the mayor of Řeporyjí Pavel Novotný (ODS) informed on Facebook. “Due to the water accident and the unfavorable PVK forecast, we are forced to close our school facilities for one day (Wednesday), about which we have parents by all means. I emphasize that at the kindergarten we were looking for a way to ensure limited traffic in a short time. However, we have to shut down both school facilities, a kindergarten and a primary school, on Wednesday, as does the district office, “he wrote.
