Barbara Meier, presenter, model and actress as well as mother, stands for authenticity and great down-to-earthness with an enormous portion of international glamor, which she now officially uses as UNICEF Austria honorary officer for children in need.
Barbara Meier, best known as Germany’s Next Topmodel, is said to be a maths and is a presenter, actress and mother. With her female power she will use her voluntary work for UNICEF Austria to fight for children and their rights, against child poverty and for access to education for every child.
“The first time I had contact with UNICEF was in Ethiopia as part of a development project. UNICEF staff measured the circumference of the children’s upper arms to determine their level of malnutrition. These frightening images have stayed in my head to this day
“, says Barbara Meier. “Even then it was clear to me that I wanted to support the work of UNICEF. Now that I’m a mother myself, I’m much more sensitive to the needs of children. It’s inconceivable to me how parents, for example, have to go when they don’t know how to feed their children the next day. If my commitment can contribute to helping children, then of course I will.
“
“We really appreciate Barbara Meier’s commitment to children and their families. As a strong woman, mother and personality, we are very pleased that she will support us as an honorary officer in our tireless work for the well-being and rights of children worldwide
“, emphasizes Christoph Jiinger, Managing Director of UNICEF Austria.
Children are particularly at risk
Conflicts, natural disasters, climate change and the pandemic have further increased the plight of millions of children around the world. Children are starving, suffering from preventable diseases and dying because of a lack of clean water. In times of crisis, there is often a lack of boys and boys, and of all those who are most at risk anyway, they lack what they need most.
UNICEF, the United Nations Children’s Fund, is committed to ensuring that children rights – guaranteed rights to survival, development, protection and participation for every species – are implemented. In the future, Barbara Meier will act as an honorary representative for those who need our help most urgently to publicize and clarify the importance of these children’s rights.
