ALL ANTWERP: “I sell donuts to help my mother financially” (Antwerp)
Every day our reporter and photographer pick a casual passer-by off the street for a chat. Want everyone has a story. And certainly in Antwerp. Today: Cedric Bangani Vika (35).
“I started a business with my mother five months ago. We sell oliebollen according to a Congolese recipe. My father passed away two years ago and after that it became financially difficult for my mother to make ends meet. That is why we are now trying to earn extra money together. She makes the best oliebollen and I bring them around in Antwerp. We will do that during the weekend for now, but my mother can hardly stop baking alone. It’s good for her to be busy.”
“We make them at home on Linkeroever and whoever follows us on Instagram can order them just like that. Only on weekends, because during the week I have another job, and I also have sons to take care of. Fortunately it is running very well for now. My youngest brother is also in the business, but he has just found another job, so I have to continue with my mother alone, but that will work for the time being.”
“My mom is the best cook. They especially especially dishes like fried bananas, chicken or rice. All I can do is fry an egg or make pasta. By the way, our oliebollen are not expensive either. Six donuts for 2 euros.” rvre
