Zelensky thanks Denmark and wants more sanctions against Russia
News
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyj thanked Denmark for its help in the fight against the Russian invasion when he spoke to the Danish Parliament on Tuesday.
In the speech, he also called the Russian attacks on the port city of Mariupol a crime against humanity. In the past, he has called the siege of the city a war crime.
“What the Russian forces are doing in Mariupol is a crime against humanity, and it is happening in front of the eyes of the whole world in real time,” Zelenskyj told the National Assembly in Denmark.
– Another 90 percent of the building in Mariupol is completely destroyed by bombing and airstrikes. The Russians blow up shelters even though they know there are civilians there. Why does it not intervene? he asked.
More sanctions
He said he was grateful for Denmark’s efforts, but asked for further sanctions against Russia. He also asked Denmark and Europe to drop Russian oil.

– Europe must say no to Russian oil as soon as possible, because the revenues allow those in power in Russia to act so arrogantly. If we want to fight what you call the Jante Law, it requires that you do not use Russian oil, said Zelensky.
Denmark is among the many countries that have sent weapons and emergency aid to Ukraine. In his speech, Zelensky did not ask for more weapons from Denmark.
Reconstruction
The president would like Denmark to help with the construction of the city of Mykolajiv, which was hit by a Russian attack no later than Tuesday.
– What we know so far is that seven people are dead and 22 are injured, Zelenskyj said about the attack.
– I urge Denmark to take responsibility for the reconstruction of Mykolajiv.
He spoke to the Folketing via an encrypted video link. The speech was in Ukrainian, but was translated by one interpreter into English, and another interpreter translated from English to Danish.
