Slavia footballers took over the Key from Prague after the derby. They dedicated it to the sick Tvrdík Soccer | Sport | Pražská Drbna
After six months, Slavia’s footballers have taken back the Key from the City of Prague, which they handed over to Mayor Zdeněk Hřib today after a recent victory in the league derby over Sparta at the Old Town Hall. The Red and Whites donated a traveling trophy to club boss Jaroslav Tvrdík, who is being treated for cancer.
“Jardo, you’re not alone, we’re with you”
The Slavs held the key from autumn 2017 until last October, when Sparta won the derby for the first time since March 2016. However, the Red and Whites retaliated against the rivals on March 6 and took back the traveling trophy. The Vršovice club in the Brožík hall was represented by Tomáš Bůzek, a member of the board of directors, Martin Říha, general secretary, Jaroslav Köstl, assistant coach, and David Hovorka and goalkeeper Ondřej Kolář.
“I am very glad that we managed to get the key back. I would like to dedicate the key and the victory symbolically to our President, Mr Tvrdík, who is now fighting his own struggle. Jardo, you’re not alone, we’re on your side. “ said Bůzek.
“We are very happy about it, because everyone knows that this match is something more than the others. Everyone always gets more annoyed with him. I haven’t lost the derby yet. I believe the key will stay with us again for a long time, “ Kolář told reporters.

“We are glad that the key of every derby is returning to the Slavic Museum again”
The Slavists won the 302nd derby at home 2: 0 in March. The match was special especially for Hovorka, who started for the first time after a serious knee injury. “If someone told me after this injury that I would play the derby in the first match, I would tell them that it is probably not normal. But somehow it turned out that way. I went into it, I believed, the whole trip and the work was worth it, “ said Hovorka.
The Slavists took over the key during the national team break. They enjoyed the ceremony and were already thinking about the Sunday hit of the league season in Pilsen. Red and whites are losing to the West Bohemian leader table from second place point.
“On the one hand, it has a sporting dimension, we are glad that the key of every derby is returning to the Slavic Museum. And secondly, it has such a cultural and social dimension. It is huge for us to be in such beautiful spaces at all. I believe that we keep the key and I think we are already at Sunday’s match in Pilsen, “ Köstl said.
