Reconstruction of the busy tram junction will begin at Prague’s Anděl
“The Anděl, Karlovo náměstí and Lazarská tram junctions are among the three busiest in the whole of Prague, which corresponds to the wear rate of the railway branch. We changed the track branch at Anděl in 2010, after 12 years it is at the end of its service life, “said Jan Šurovský, Technical Director of the Transport Company of the Capital City of Prague.
Transport scheme on Anděl during the first stage of reconstruction of tram tracks
First, the level crossing in the direction from Nádražní to Plzeňská Street will change. From Thursday 31 March to Wednesday 6 April, tram traffic in Nádražní Street in the section between the Anděl and Na Knížecí stops will be suspended in both directions. Tram lines 2, 4, 5, 7, 12, 15, 20, 21 and 94 will run on alternative routes. An alternative bus service marked X7 will be introduced between the Anděl and Radlická stops.
In the second stage from April 7 to April 12, DPP will repair the dormitories in Lidická Street. Thus, trams will not run in the section from the intersection of Nádražní and Za Ženským domovy streets to Palackého náměstí, where the rails and switches will also be exchanged. In addition, this stage will affect lines 10 and 16. These will run through the Újezd and Národní divadlo stops.
From April 12, the works will be moved to the sections from Plzeňská to Nádražní Street and from Štefánikova to Plzeňská Street. Tram traffic in the direction from Nádražní to Lidická Street will be resumed, and from 12 April to 22 April, trams will no longer run in Plzeňská and Štefánikova Streets. There will be a tram shuttle in the direction from Újezd on náměstí 14. října. Tram lines serving Řepy will bypass the Anděl area along Za Ženským domovy and Radlická streets. The Barrandov area will already be served by a regular line number 5, while Radlice will continue to be served by alternative bus services.
The fourth stage will start on April 23. Work will take place in the section between Újezd and Anděl, where tram traffic will be interrupted and alternative bus transport will be introduced. From April 23, trams in Plzeňská Street will run at regular stops and tram transport to Radlice will also be resumed. The work will end on April 29, when the operation of trams in the section between Anděl and Újezd will be resumed.
