Peace demonstration moves through Brussels | The standard
Several organizations are demonstrating today in Brussels against the war in Ukraine in a national manifestation Europe for Peace and Solidarity. The arrival left at 1 pm at the North Station.
The organizers want to express in the first place the outrage at the Russian invasion of Ukraine. They believe that Russia should leave Ukraine and pleaded for solidarity with the refugees.
Spokesperson Ludo De Brabander of Vrede vzw, the organizer of the demonstration, debated the ex-minister of Defense Pieter De Crem (CD&V), Member of Parliament Theo Francken (N-VA) and Member of the European Parliament Kathleen Van on the informational program the Seventh Day on VRT. Brempt (Forward).
De Brabander opposes the military bidding that, according to him, arose after the Ukraine crisis. Even now that a war has broken out in Ukraine, Vrede vzw maintains that Europe must become completely free of nuclear weapons. He also questioned the commitment of all the other partners at the table at the Seventh Day that a strengthened European defense policy is needed.
The demonstration is based on, among others, 11.11, various trade unions and hunistic, Belgian trade unions against nuclear weapons, Movement.net, FOS – Social Solidarity, Hand in Hand racism, Hart Boven Hard, Intal, Palestine Solidarity, Pax Christi Vlaanderen, EPO Publishers, Vrede vzw, or Vredesactie.
The organizers call themselves ‘solidarity with all those who stand up for peace in Ukraine, in Russia, in Europe and worldwide.’
