The National Museum in Prague will host a Ball on Wheels on Saturday
The main goal of the event is to enable people with special needs to participate in similar social activities. The National Museum in its program thinks of visitors with various disabilities throughout the year, the press release said.
The ball will be opened on wheels by the museum’s general director Michal Lukeš and the mayor of Prague Zdeněk Hřib (Pirates), the evening will be accompanied by actor Jan Čenský and there will be a band of students and graduates of the Jedlička Institute The Tap Tap.
“Our aim is not only to remove physical barriers, but above all and above all to prepare a number of events for visitors with special needs so that they feel as good as possible in the museum, take away pleasant experiences and are happy to return to us,” said Lukeš.
According to him, for the National Museum, the ball is the imaginary culmination of all the activities it tries to bring closer to visitors with special needs. In the barrier-free museum complex, for example, it is possible to use one of the regular guided tours with interpretation into Czech sign language for adults and children with hearing impairments twice a month. A total of about 800 of these visitors.
In the Sale of Minerals it is possible to visit educational programs for the visually impaired with original touch aids. Haptic elements are taken into account in all exhibitions. At present, it can be found in the History of the 20th Century exhibition, and they are being prepared in other new exhibitions.
The exposition Folk Culture by Touch is installed in the Ethnographic Museum. Visitors can go through it individually or take part in a group guided tour. In the National Monument in Vítkov, it is again possible to explore this building directly by touch thanks to the haptic model, which is located here.
For visitors who prefer purely virtual activities, the National Museum’s website has prepared exhibitions and videos with interpretation into Czech sign language, including worksheets with QR codes for children, and audio commentaries on virtual exhibitions for the visually impaired. In total, almost 18.00 online visitors have already seen the virtual barrier-free museum, the museum said.
The National Museum also manages a comprehensive specialized portal called emuzeum.cz (https://emuzeum.cz/bezbarier), where there is, among other things, the Museum without Barriers section, where visitors can find information about current events, various events and projects or important information.
