The incomprehension of Prysmian employees in Douvrin in the face of a possible drop in remuneration
According to the intersyndicale, 95% of employees stopped work this Thursday, March 24 during negotiations with management to denounce pay cuts of 300 to 400 euros per month.
Prysmian manufactures optical fiber in Douvrin and employs 350 people, including 218 permanent operators. The Italian group is one of the world’s leading production of fiber optic telecommunications cables. It is present in 50 countries and has around ten sites in France. According to the unions, the exporters of profits for 2022 are approaching one billion euros. As a result, employees do not receive the pay cuts granted by management. This explains, through its press service, having to find solutions to remain competitive, particularly in the face of Asian competition in this fiber optic market. But she disputes the figures for the loss of 300 euros in salary per month and specifies that it undertakes to maintain the 218 incumbent operators and their purchasing power by paying bonuses.
Negotiations ended on Thursday without an agreement. A new meeting is scheduled for Tuesday. For their part, the unions fear in addition to wage cuts the elimination of around fifty jobs in Douvrin.
