Romania’s condition: Moldova
The meetings of the heads of state in Brussels (EU, G7 and NATO summits) really have a historical significance. It is taking place in full invasion of Ukraineturned into a war on the verge of extinction and a threat to all of Europe, if not the whole world.
Thursday’s meetings with President Joe Biden are thus becoming crucial for NATO and European countries, including Romania and Poland. It is conceivable that this meeting will take decisive steps to address the conflict and future strategies in Europe. Not coincidentally, just a few days before, President Joe Biden said: “It’s a time when things are changing dramatically. There will be a new world order in the world, and we will be at the forefront of it. And we will unite the rest of the world through this action. “
Such a statement cannot be the result of a momentary inspiration. Rather, it announces important measures and changes in the policy of the United States and the entire North Atlantic Alliance. In fact, during his visit to Bucharest, during the joint statement with the President of Romania, Andrzej Duda would state: “In the face of what happened in Ukraine, in the face of an unprecedented Russian aggression on that free, independent, sovereign state … for us, and for the whole of Europe, one could say for the world, a new conception of NATO is Necessary.”
The essence of President Andrzej Duda’s statement is clear: “A new conception for NATO is needed! ”
Europeans have different points of view. European defense will undoubtedly be an important issue. Strengthening the stick flank has become a priority. President Andrzej Duda and Klaus Iohannis also called for an increase in the number of troops on the north-south flank. This involves a movement of forces from central Europe to the east of the continent and, implicitly, a translation of US or NATO military bases into the territory of the two countries. It is not excluded that this meeting in Brussels will take the decision to expand and consolidate Mihail Kogălniceanu’s military base, developed to the point of becoming a major European defense pillar in Eastern Europe. I assume that the meetings in Brussels will increase the importance of the military bases in Romania and Poland. Especially of the base from Mihail Kogălniceanu, considered an allied military base, but without a well-defined status in the Romanian public opinion.
The increase of the security stake on the whole eastern side brings with it an increase in the interest towards this Romania. Our country is becoming a bridgehead for the defense of the democratic world. In the face of the danger posed by Russia’s new behavior, Romania is acquiring an invaluable geostrategic value. The risk and the danger also increase, but the weight of the decisions taken by the Romanian representatives also increases. In other words, it becomes important what positions our country holds. And she can’t get over an obligation that stems from her history and culture. Defending Moldova’s interests at all costs! The Brussels talks also address Ukraine’s membership in the European Union. Without Moldova and Georgia, the operation would have the value of a political gift, not a unitary strategy for the whole region. That’s why these days (Extraordinary meeting of Heads of State and Government of NATO Member States and European Council meeting) they can show us to what extent the president of Romania creates the history and culture of a people who chose to represent him.
Fortunately, at the meeting with the President of Poland, Klaus Iohannis seemed to understand the stakes of the moment and expressed his readiness to play an important card for Moldova. On this occasion, he said:
“The impact of the conflict in Ukraine on the Republic of Moldova is major, and the Republic of Moldova needs solid and coordinated financial and logistical support from the European Union and the Member States, including its energy security.
At the same time, Romania and Poland strongly support the integration of the Republic of Moldova, Ukraine and Georgia into the European Union, and we will continue to act to make this goal a reality. “. (Klaus Iohannis).
I reproduced this passage more to remind the President of Romania that at a crossroads for contemporary history he has an obligation of conscience.
To support without hesitation the interest of Romania, which is called Moldova!
