Ice hockey Liechtenstein facing great challenges – Liechtenstein
FUSSEN – The ice hockey division of the Liechtenstein Ice Hockey, Inline and Skate Association has had to accept major setbacks in recent days. In the national team, three important players are missing for the IIHF Development Cup in May in Füssen (GER) due to injury, and the International Ice Hockey Federation has also reduced the financial support for the cup enormously.
Despite these setbacks, ice hockey Liechtenstein continues to be built up. A year and a half ago there was no national ice hockey team and the ice rink project team was at zero. In the meantime, some good talks have been held about an ice rink in Liechtenstein. Today, the association is so far that the ice rink project is being worked on immensely, a national team has been named and progress is being made step by step in the youth program.
Cooperation talks are also being held with interested regional ice hockey clubs on how the people of Liechtenstein can be better integrated into training in winter. Those responsible at Eishockey Liechtenstein are also in talks with well-known organizations to promote an exchange between young people. The trainer/leader training is also being promoted.
FL team highly motivated
As is well known, Liechtenstein’s national team will take part in the IIHF Development Cup in Füssen (GER) for the first time in May. Due to the loss of the financial subsidy from the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF), the national team players now have to do more work themselves and no compensation can be paid to the staff.
Financial contribution is not optimal, especially for young players, since they are still in training several times and have to contribute to the costs of the clubs all year round. The last training sessions showed that Liechtenstein has a highly motivated team that is getting better and better on the ice.
With three more ice training sessions in Widnau and Chur, the team spirit will continue to be written. On Wednesday, May 4th, the team will travel to Füssen. Five games against Ireland, Colombia, Algeria, Portugal and Andorra are scheduled there over four days.
On Saturday, May 7th, the association organizes a fan trip to Füssen. The team has earned a lot of support from Liechtenstein. In mid-May, a final party will take place with patrons, sponsors and partners of Eishockey Liechtenstein. Registrations for the fan trip and orders for fan jerseys can be sent to [email protected].
