Germany takes over Ukrainian refugees from Moldova | Moldova | DW
The Republic of Moldova closed its airspace on February 24, when Russia’s invasion of Ukraine began, but provides air corridors for the transport of Ukrainian refugees to Germany and other countries. The first special Lufthansa flight carrying refugees arriving in the Republic of Moldova landed tonight at Frankfurt International Airport. The more than 130 refugees are housed in Bitburg, in the state of Rhineland-Palatinate, in western Germany. Another such start will follow, announced Annalena Baerbock, the Federal Minister of Foreign Affairs, who welcomed the refugees at Frankfurt Airport, together with Nancy Faeser, the Federal Minister of the Interior.
Germany has promised to take up to 2,500 Ukrainian refugees from the Republic of Moldova and to allocate 3 million euros to the countries to help manage the refugee crisis. The announcement was made by the head of German diplomacy, environmentalist Annalena Baerbock, on March 12, during her visit to Chisinau, where she met with the President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu.

Annalena Baerbock said she spoke in Moldova, near the border with Ukraine, with people “who fled with their children from Russian tanks, having to leave their whole lives behind.”
Federal Interior Minister Nancy Faeser, Social Democrat, said Germany could become a center for the fair distribution of refugees in Europe. “Given the dire suffering of refugees, we also want to provide them with shorter trips, faster medical treatment and better accommodation,” Faeser added.
