Three round-robin matches took place on Wednesday night at the BKT Tires & OK Tire World Women’s Curling Championship. This 14th Sweden met Korea, Italy against Turkey and the Czech Republic against Japan.
Canada was scheduled to play against Scotland in this session, but covid-19 difficulties have forced the Scots to pull out, giving the Canadians the automatic win. This will be the case for all of Scotland’s remaining round-robin opponents.
Sweden against Korea
In this match-up, both teams were looking for their seventh victory in the competition. While Korea was in second place in the ranking with a 7-1 win-loss record, Sweden was third, after taking two losses on its six wins so far.
Korea had the last stone advantage in the first end, and after breaking it, they made a single in the second. They could have scored two goals, but the Korean jumper Kim EunJung came on shot with his last draw attempt.
Sweden scored two in the third and took a 2-1 lead.
In the fourth end, Korea made a single when Kim EunJung fell short with her last draw in an attempt to put two points on the board.
In the fifth, a measure decided that Sweden scored a point, and the team went to the break with 3-2 at half time, Sweden leading.
In the sixth final, Sweden stole a single point, when Kim EunJung’s last stone accidentally knocked a Swedish stone in the points position.
Sweden led the match 5-2 and played the eighth final. In the end, Korea made a single with a perfect draw from Kim EunJung with her last stone.
In the ninth, Sweden scored two more points, partly due to two perfect shots by their ship Anna Hasselborg. Sweden led the match 7-3 and went into the tenth end. In the end, Sweden finally ran Korea out of the rocks to make 7-3 the final result.
Sweden released their morning match to Canada, and their third player Sara McManus talked about her one win, a losing day and said: “The ice has been a bit tricky today, so it was a kind of new situation to adapt to all the changes like when the stones are ground. So we just focused on the learning mode all day and just tried to get a good feeling out there. And I think we did it every single day today. So it was nice. “
Italy against Turkey
In this match, Italy was looking for its second victory in the event, while Turkey tried to take their first win.
After breaking the first end, Turkey took two points in the second, when Italian jumper Stefania Constantini missed both of his shots at the end.
The team exchanged single points in the next two finals. Italy then scored two goals in the fifth and leveled the match at 3-3 at the break.
After an empty sixth finish, Italy stole two points in the seventh when Turkish jumper Dilsat Yildiz failed in his double selection attempt.
Italy led the match 5-3 at the eighth end. In the end, Yildiz was heavy with his last draw attempt to give up a steal of two more points.
Turkey put three points on the board in the ninth after a perfect promotion by Yildiz with his last stone.
When they went into the tenth part, Italy led 7-6 and had the last stone advantage. But due to an excellent promotion by Yildiz, followed by a failed hit-and-roll by Constantini, Turkey stole a single point to take the match to an extra end.
In the extra time, Constantini removed the Turkish counterattack from the one-footer to score two points and win the match 9-7.
Czech Republic v Japan

In the sixth, the Czechs could have scored two points, but Alzbeta Baudysova was heavy with her last attempt at a draw and they were content with only one point.
The first multiple points of the match came in the eighth end, when the Czech Republic put two points on the board and led the match 5-3.
In the ninth finish, the Japanese jumper Kitazawa Ikue failed with his difficult solf-pee attempt with his last stone, which resulted in a steal of two points for the Czechs. At this point, Japan recognized defeat with a final score of 7-3.
After her second victory of the week, a happy Alzbeta Baudysova said: “It was a fantastic match. I personally had a bit of a struggle in the first half, but my team played really well.
