Students demonstrate today in Lisbon 60 years after student crisis
ANDThis year, National Student Day coincides with 60 years since the 1962 dictatorship and, six decades later, students are once again taking to the streets, no longer to fight the dictatorship, but “loaded” with dictatorship for better higher education.
With two demonstrations scheduled for Lisbon, all roads lead to the vigil of the Republic, where a meeting of higher education students met in the afternoon.
The first protest is scheduled for 2:30 pm, in Praça do Rossio, and came from a manifesto of the Student Association of the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences, registered by the Academic Federation of Lisbon, the Academic Association of the University of Lisbon and student associations. from 12 other institutions in Lisbon, Porto and Caldas da Rainha.
From Rossio, the students head to the Assembly of the Republic, where other students will arrive later, in a demonstration that leaves Terreiro do Paço at 15:00.
The protest was convened by the Académicas movement, made up of the academic associations of the University of the Azores, Algarve, Aveiro, Beira Interior, Coimbra Évora, Madeira, Minho and Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro.
In the evening, the front of the parliament will be the stage for a vigil by the National Federation of Student Associations of Polytechnic Higher Education, at 22:00, in tribute to the victims of the war in Ukraine.
In addition to these street workshops, the associations of student representatives at the colleges are promoting debates about the workshops and studies for National Day students.
At Instituto Superior Técnico, students will be in “academic mourning” until Thursday, against a proposal approved by the institution that almost doubles the value of master’s fees, from €697 in the previous academic year to €1,250 in the next year.
On that day, the Mayor of Lisbon, Carlos Moedas, will also receive higher education students and leaders of student associations, at 18:30 in Paços do Concelho.
Among the youngest, the struggle takes place at the schools, with inclusion in secondary schools across the country for the best laws.
In Oeiras, secondary education students Sebastião e Silva join in defense of the school, want the sexual policy and more psychologists, while students from Fernando Lopes, in Cascais, carry out works at the school.
To the north, the second schools of Orta, António Nobre and the António Sérgio secondary school, the António Sérgio secondary school and the António Sérgio secondary school are identified.
In Portalegre, students from the secondary school in São Lourenço are also protesting the construction work being carried out at the school, similar to that of colleagues at Tomás Cabreira, in Faro, who are asking for psychologists and staff.
