The award for the best transport construction went to the transformation of Moskevská Street in Prague

Prague – Transformation was chosen as the best transport construction in recent years Moscow streets in Prague in 2014. Today, the Jakub Cigler Architects studio won the Vít Brandy Prize for this year’s main prize, which evaluates traffic constructions and changes in public space. 54 Czech and Slovak projects from 2014 to 2022 were entered in the competition.
“Most of the remarkable realizations of transport constructions and measures were among them, so I did not envy the selection of the jurors. Everyone who plans and implements measures for cyclists and pedestrians and changes the view of public space deserves the award,” said the chairman Jaroslav Vymazal.
The winners were decided by a nine-member jury composed of representatives of organizations focused on transport, architecture, urban planning, landscape architecture, fine arts and environmental protection.
In addition to the main prizes, the authors of the pedestrian measures in the form of park paths, footbridges and landscaping at the Komárov housing estate in Brno, as well as area projects for cyclists in Třebíč, where the city cycle tour was established, in the Jindřichův Hradec region. The Oslavany-Ivančice cycle path won the public vote.
According to the organizing association, the aim of the competition for the Vít Brandy Award is to present transport constructions and measures for the development of active mobility and cultivation of the urban environment, which can then serve as examples for other cities as well. One of the partners of the competition was the State Fund for Transport Infrastructure. “It is important to encourage city representatives to perceive that orientation on pedestrian and bicycle transport can also help transport,” said Minister of Transport Martin Kupka (ODS) about the competition. According to him, competition is a way to share successful practice.
