Prague – After a winter break from Saturday, people in Prague will be able to use seasonal ferries across the Vltava again when traveling by public transport. However, there will be fewer of them in operation, as ferries P4 and P5 will merge. In total, there are six ferries sailing on the Vltava, including two year-round ones. In addition to the route, the departure interval will also change for some routes, Filip Drápal, a spokesman for the Ropid organization, which is planning Prague’s public transport, told ČTK today. The standard public transport tariff applies to ferries.
The ferries P1 from Sedlec to the Zámky locality and P2 from Podbaba to Podhoří are in operation all year round. This year, exceptionally earlier, the P6 seasonal ferry connecting Lahovičky and Modřany was put into operation. Since January, there has been an alternative bus line 165, which runs on a detour due to the reconstruction of the retaining wall in Komořanská Street in Závisti. From Saturday, the seasonal ferry P3 from Lihovar na Dvorce, P5 from Císařská louka to Podskalská Výtoň and P7 sailing from the Prague Market Square on Rohanský ostrov will be added to it again.
According to the spokesperson, the P5 ferry will drive to the Kotevní dock, where a separate P4 line used to run from Císařská louka. However, the Kotevní stop will only be a sign. At the same time, the ferry will leave more often, every 20 minutes. “This will lead to the necessary capacity between the island of Císařská louka and Výtoní, but at the same time it will preserve the significantly less demanded connection on the left bank of the Vltava,” a Ropid spokesman commented on the change.
Routes and intervals of other ferries will also undergo changes. Thanks to the passage of part of Žluté lázně, the P3 ferry will have a new right-bank dock Dvorce instead of the original Rowing Island, and will sail on a shorter route. According to the spokesman, the new dock is better accessible from the tram and bus stops of the same name. The P3 ferry can thus be an alternative to the upcoming reconstruction of the Barrandov Bridge, which may negatively affect the operation of buses across the bridge, Drápal added, adding that the ferry interval will be shortened from the original 20 minutes to 15 minutes and in the morning peak to ten minutes.
The Holešovice-Karlín ferry P7 will no longer sail to Štvanice this year. After the Štvanická footbridge, which connects Holešovice and Karlín, will be completed, its operation will end completely, the spokesman added.
In the past, the P8 ferry, which replaced the Troja footbridge, which crashed into the Vltava in December 2017, ended. The ferry instead of the footbridge operated until the autumn of 2020.
