24.03.2022 14:21 | Press Release
On Saturday, March 26, Czech Railways will send a steam train from Prague to Střezimíř and back, which will start this year’s nostalgic train season in Central Bohemia. At the head of the train, which will be composed of retro cars and a dining car, the steam locomotive 464,202 Rosnička will run.
Steam train tickets can be purchased in advance at all box offices in the ČD e-shop (HERE). An accompanying program will be prepared in Střezimíř, during which the local historic railway station will ceremoniously say goodbye to the regular train service. As part of the modernization of the corridor from Prague to České Budějovice, the section of the line between Votice and Sudoměřice u Tábora will be led along a new line outside the current Střezimíř railway station.
The steam train will depart from Prague’s Smíchov railway station on Saturday, March 26 at 8:48 am and will be available in Prague-Uhříněves, Mnichovice, Benešov u Prahy, Heřmaničky, Ješetice or Červený Újezd u Votic. The steam train will arrive in Střezimíř at 11:15, where an accompanying program will be prepared. At 15:24, the set will set off on the return journey and arrive at the Prague-Smíchov station at 5:20 p.m.
“We will start this year’s nostalgic season by steam train to the area of Bohemian Siberia. At the same time, Střezimíř is not chosen at all at random. In a few months, the Railway Administration will start operating on a new double-track line between Votice and Sudoměřice near Tábor, where the stops will be set in a shifted position. The original railway station in Střezimíř, as well as other stations and stops where our trains still stop, will lie outside the new line. However, passengers will experience shorter travel times and smoother rides. At the original railway station in Střezim, we will say goodbye to the regular operation, which began in 1870, “says Jakub Goliáš, director of the Central Trade Center of the Czech Railways.

Even before the new line is put into operation, there will be a 90-day continuous closure, during which the Railway Administration will gradually put the new line into operation and connect to the already modernized sections from Benešov u Prahy to Votice and from Sudoměřice u Tábora to Tábor. The lockout will begin on April 2 and end on June 30. Freight trains will start using the new track on the evening of June 30. The first passenger trains will pass through the section on July 1, 2022. Between Votice and Červený Újezd, only the second track will be in temporary operation, and further tracks will run to Sudoměřice on both tracks. Full double-track operation in the entire section will start in September, when the trial operation will start.
On the occasion of the end of train operations, an accompanying program will take place at the current Střezimíř station on Saturday, March 26, from 10:00 to 16:00. The Swing Band Tábor will play all the time and those interested will be able to ride on the lever railcars of the Czech Siberian Railways. There will also be attractions for children (bouncy castle, machine, face painting, etc.), sale of refreshments or presentation stands of cooperating organizations.
“The ceremony to end the train operation at the original railway station should remain in everyone’s mind as a nice reminder of its more than 150-year history. At the same time, we would like to thank all current and past railway employees who have a station connected with a long part of their professional life, “says the mayor of Střezimíř Miloš Jelínek and adds:” As part of the project of the voluntary union of municipalities of the Voticko Microregion, “Bicycle paths on an abandoned railway body”, a railway museum with the operation of tourist trolleys will be gradually established here. We are looking forward to seeing you all in Střezimír on Saturday, March 26. Don’t forget to pack a hat and gloves – spring starts on the hills of Bohemian Siberia later! ”
