Ukrainians continue to travel around Prague for free. At least until the end of the emergency
“We expect it to be at least until the end of the state of emergency. However, it will depend on the development of the situation and we will also take into account the state’s progress in the case of trains that have refugees free of charge, “said Scheinherr. On March 4, the government announced a new status for 30 days. Today, there will be an extension of the state of emergency in three months.
At a meeting of the committee, the name said that the city management from the beginning, when the public transport approved free of charge, assumed that this was a temporary measure. Tomčík also said that the public transport operation is set to the normal number of passengers for hygienic reasons, and the increase in the number of refugees does not yet generate higher operating costs. At present, compared to the pre-pandemic period, about 80 percent of passengers use the metro and about 90 percent of trams and buses.
Refugees have free public transport since the beginning of the war in Ukraine at the end of February. At the same time, those who come to Prague by car can park for free in the P + R car park in Černý Most and then use public transport. There is an assistance center in the Prague Congress Center (KCP), where they can process documents or open a bank account. The center serving Prague and Central Bohemia has handled over 52,000 people since the beginning of the conflict.
