Prague – The International Festival of Documentary Films on Human Rights One World begins today in Prague. The main theme of the 24th year is the fight for freedom. After two years, when the films could only be watched online due to the epidemic, viewers will return to the cinemas. The organizers prepared 80 documents and six virtual reality images for them. The Prague parade ends on March 31. This year, the festival takes place in a total of 25 cities in the Czech Republic and at the end of April also in Brussels. It is organized by People in Need. ČTK broadcasts the opening ceremony of the festival from 19:00.
“This year’s theme is The Roads of Freedom. It’s a topic that is extremely relevant these days when Putin invaded Ukraine. Of course, we will be screening a series of films that point to this sad and tragic event. We will see a range of films with stories of people who honor values of freedom and democracy and fight for them and their loved ones to live in peace and quiet, “festival director Ondřej Kamenický told ČTK.
The festival program is on the web www.jedensvet.cz. The films will be accompanied by discussions with the authors, the main performers or experts. The films record the situation in countries with undemocratic regimes or from areas where minorities are oppressed. They capture the struggle for women’s rights, freedom of speech or justice.
The opening ceremony will take place at the Prague Crossroads. The Homo Homini Award for the promotion of human rights and democracy will be taken over by Egyptian lawyer Mahjaúr Masri, who defends the rights of prisoners. The organizers chose the Polish documentary Judges under Pressure as the opening film of the show. The film, which introduces viewers to the state of the judiciary in the neighboring country, will be presented by director Kacper Lisowski and the main protagonist Igor Tuley. The film will also be seen by the audience at the Lucerna cinema tonight. The screening will be complemented by a debate with the creators.
The films of the One World festival will be shown in Prague cinemas, and the organizers will offer virtual reality in the city library. Tickets for screenings cost 130 crowns, people over the age of 65 and the disabled with a ZTP and ZTP / P card pay half. Tickets for the performance can also be purchased at the information stand in Lucerne.
