The meeting would have one item on the agenda, namely “Solution of the humanitarian crisis on the territory of the capital city of Prague in connection with the war in Ukraine“. The ODS and ANO previously criticized the municipality’s leadership for insufficient communication regarding the solution to the refugee wave in relation to the city district. The parties also demand that the municipality contribute with the town hall. “Individual city districts need a significant strengthening of their budgets and they need to significantly improve the communication of the municipality towards them,” Prokop concluded.
The opposition also wants to examine all the possibilities of using Prague’s property, especially in connection with flats and schools, and to specify any requirements that Prague could apply to the state budget or the European Union budget. “We also believe that the convening of an extraordinary council will be a clear signal to both Praguers and the people affected by the war in Ukraine that we have the will to act quicklyresponsibly as a clear vision for our common future, “added Zajíček.
The influx of refugees
Most Ukrainian refugees are proud of Prague and the Central Bohemian Region. According to the Ministry of the Interior to date, about 52,000 have registered in the metropolis since the beginning of the war, of which 23,000 are women and 21,000 children. Accommodation capacities have already been exhausted in Prague, refugees without a roof over their heads are also transported to other regions, and the municipality uses gyms and other temporary premises for emergency sleeping. Accommodation facilities are also being set up by city districts, which also deal with capacity in primary and nursery schools.
