Rail traffic between Berlin and Frankfurt is rolling again
After a suspected arson attack on the Deutsche Bahn infrastructure, long-distance and regional traffic between Berlin and Frankfurt (Oder) has started again. The repairs were completed, the railway said on Tuesday evening. The route was put back into operation shortly after 4 p.m. The RE1 regional train line and all EC trains were particularly affected. As early as Tuesday afternoon, the S-Bahn traffic on the Stadtbahn had returned to its usual frequency.
On Monday evening, a cable fire near the Berlin-Wuhlheide S-Bahn station caused severe restrictions on regional, S-Bahn and long-distance traffic. A letter of confession then appears, which the police claim to be authentic. In it, the alleged arson is associated, among other things, in connection with the start of production in the new Tesla factory in Grünheide, Brandenburg, south-east of Berlin. “The aim of our sabotage was the 3,000 commuters who work in the Gigafactory,” the letter says, among other things.
The police therefore do not rule out a politically motivated act, the state security is investigating. In the evening, the fire also led to a signal fault in Berlin-Lichtenberg and a signal box fault, which restricted S-Bahn traffic, especially on the Stadtbahn.
