Prague: Radek is battling leukemia and kidney cancer and has a big dream
Radek’s problems began with excessive sweating and hot flashes. Subsequently, his throat began to ache, so he thought he had caught a virus. But when there was no improvement after a week of antibiotic treatment, the doctor gave him a blood count.
“After taking a blood count, the doctor called him another week and told him that he had very low red blood cell levels. Everyone reassured me that it would be anemia, and my husband forbade me to surf the Internet so as not to scare me. “ recalls Mr. Radek’s wife, Mrs. Lucie.
Crushing SMS
“The next morning he wrote to me that he was going to the doctor and then he would let me know immediately. At 11 o’clock he called that he had sent him to FN Motol and was upset because he needed to go to work. I remember it like today, we wrote to each other over time, it looks like he’s still waiting to be hungry and he’s already looking forward to going home. “ tells. When the painful SMS came: “Lucika, they take me by ambulance to Karlak, I have leukemia. Don’t worry, everything will be fine, I love you so much! ”
Thus, the life of Radka, his wife Lucie and three children Filip (14) and Kristýna (13), which his wife has from his first marriage, and Maruška (3), together – turned upside down in one day. Mrs. Lucie was at home with the children at the time. “I couldn’t even breathe, I started crying, and of course the children immediately came up with the question: What happened?” tells Lucie.
She told them everything at the beginning of the treatment. The family speaks openly about the husband’s illness at home. “The children are wonderful and a great support to us. Even little Maruška understands everything well, somehow in her own way, as a child. When it was clear that her husband would lose her hair, we explained that she would not have hair like her favorite doll Vendelínek, “ describes Radek’s wife.
Chemotherapy, transplantation and other cancer
Radek immediately went for a bone marrow test to find out what type of leukemia it was. Phe developed acute myeloid leukemia, which must first undergo chemotherapy and then a bone marrow transplant. Therefore, he was hospitalized and began the first part of treatment.
However, during one of his regular CT scans, doctors found a unit in his kidney. Although they thought it was impossible for it to be another type of cancer, they were unfortunately not right. Collection of a kidney tumor confirmed. After three cycles of chemotherapy, Mr. Radek is awaiting tumor removal and further maintenance treatment. “The worst of it all was separation. But he is incredible! He began to reassure me, and instead of holding him, he held, and still holds, he kept me. ” describes Mrs. Lucie.
Dad’s biggest wish
Because Mr. Radek is currently unable to go to work and the family has lost a significant portion of their income, the Good Angels have started to help them regularly through monthly contributions through the Good Angel Foundation.
“Our greatest wish is for the husband to recover and we can all be together again. At such moments, one realizes how terribly fragile life is. The husband’s biggest wish is that one day he can accompany Maruška to the altar. That is why we thank everyone very much for their help. “ concludes the story with a sincere thank you to Mrs. Lucie.
