Prague has specific plans for a tunnel in Hloubětín. Above all, it should relieve Průmyslová Street and its surroundings
Thousands of drivers driving along the backbone of the Průmyslová and Kbelská roads, which together form the so-called Industrial Semi-Circuit, which daily encounters traffic problems and long columns in the section around the intersections with Poděbradská and Kolbenova streets. In addition, the negative impacts are evident in the following roads in the wider area.
At the same time, however, this section creates a significant defect in terms of environment, safety and urban planning, as the surrounding development consists of family or apartment buildings and a tram depot in the northern part.
Therefore, the construction of the Hloubětín tunnel, which should be excavated with a length of approximately 670 meters, should solve the unsatisfactory situation in the future. The tunnel will significantly increase traffic flow and safety, reduce long columns by ancestors and also improve the environment in the area, which will also be helped by shifting the area’s traffic load into the tunnel. At the end of the series, after the construction of the Hloubětín tunnel, the permeability of the area for pedestrians and cyclists should significantly improve.
“The Hloubětín tunnel and the capacity of the Industrial – Kbelská x Poděbradská and Kbelská x Kolbenova intersections are one of the most important constructions we will be able to build by the end of the decade. Thanks to the modification of the intersections and the new Hloubětín tunnel, we will increase the capacity of the narrow neck of the Industrial Semicircle by up to 150 percent. And thanks to the new construction, conditions will improve not only for car traffic. Drivers will not have to wait at intersections and drive comfortably without stopping underground. At the same time, new tree lines and quality paths for pedestrians and cyclists will be created on the surface. The first works will start this year with the modification of the signaling and shift lanes, including the construction of two pedestrian underpasses under the railway line along Kbelská Street, “ states the Deputy Mayor of the Capital m of Prague for transport Adam Scheinherr.
The subject of the public contract, which was approved today by the Prague councilors, is the preparation of project documentation for the joint building permit, author’s supervision during the construction and engineering activities during the preparation of the Hloubětín tunnel constructions. The estimated value is set at CZK 320 million excluding VAT. The winner should start project preparations this year and work on them for another two years, the subsequent author’s supervision should take place until the end of the construction part, which is expected in 2029.
