Almost sixteen thousand inhabitants came to Prague last year. Most moved in Company News Pražská Drbna
At the end of last year, more than 1.27 million people lived in Prague, which is almost 16,000 more than at the beginning. There were more births than deaths, the increase in population was mainly caused by migration. This follows from data published by the Czech Statistical Office.
Less marriage, more divorce
Last year, 15,157 people were born and 14,460 people died in the capital, so 697 people gained a natural increase in Prague. However, most of the increase was due to migration, which amounted to 15,296 people. In 2021, 46,989 people immigrated to the city and 31,693 moved out. Last year, statisticians record 5,704 marriages and 2,404 divorces. In 2020, 249 fewer marriages were concluded, while there were 229 more divorces than last year.
Due to migration, the number of inhabitants in the whole republic increased by 21,900 to 10.51 million last year. 139,900 people died, the most since the end of World War II. And by 10,600 more than in 2020, the first year of the coronavirus epidemic. The death toll exceeded the number of births by 28,100, the deepest natural population decline in the country’s history since 1918, statistics said.
The Central Bohemian Region has the largest population
The capital remains the second most populous region in the Czech Republic. In the first place is the Central Bohemian Region, where at the end of the year lived almost 1.39 million people. The South Moravian and Moravian-Silesian regions also have more than a million inhabitants.
