the municipality of Marck-en-Calais is in favor of a classification of the Walde lighthouse
The building, built 163 years ago, has seen its condition deteriorate. The municipality hopes to obtain funds to renovate it.
It has stood up to waves and storms for 163 years. From the top of its metal pilings, the Walde lighthouse, off Marck-en-Calaisis, bends but does not break.
Corine Noël, the mayor of this commune of Pas-de-Calais, accompanied by Pierre-Henri Dumont, municipal councilor and deputy Les Républicains, wishes to ensure its safeguard, notified this Sunday our colleagues from The voice of the North. This is why she made a request to classify the lighthouse in the inventory of Historic Monuments.
The ultimate decision-maker prefect
Last September, on the occasion of Heritage Days, the Calais Environment and Heritage Association (EPAC) organized a visit to the lighthouse, in particular to make visitors aware of the need to maintain it.
The classification hoped for by the mayor of Marck-en-Calaisis and Pierre-Henri Dumont will make it possible to obtain financial assistance to finance renovation work.
This will require the Regional Commission for Heritage and Architecture (CRPA) to give its approval for this project. It will then be up to the prefect to make the final decision.
